Feline Surgery #

Head Nurse

£38,000–£40,000 depending on experience

Are you an experienced, feline-focused Registered Veterinary Nurse who enjoys leading by example, supporting colleagues and making a real difference to the day-to-day running of a practice?

We are looking for an experienced RVN who enjoys being hands-on clinically, has a natural ability to support and encourage others and takes pride in maintaining high standards of patient care to lead our nursing team. Suitable candidates must have a clear understanding of feline friendly practices and lead by example with these at all times while supporting others to do the same.

As Head Nurse, you would be responsible for leading the nursing team, helping to ensure the smooth and efficient running of the practice each day and working closely with our vets and wider team to provide the best possible experience for our feline patients and clients.

The role

Your role is a pivotal part of the day-to-day running of the clinic. Your main focus will be leading the clinical floor, supporting our vets and nurses and helping ensure the practice runs smoothly and efficiently.

Leading, supporting and motivating the nursing team, encouraging good communication, cat friendly handling and approach at all times and contributing to a positive working environment.

Overseeing the day-to-day organisation of the nursing department and helping coordinate the clinical workflow.

Providing practical support and guidance to our vets, nurses and VCA throughout the day.

Running regular nurse meetings and continued improvement meetings.

Helping the team manage daily priorities and unexpected challenges.

Maintaining and developing our clinical standards, protocols and feline-friendly practices alongside the nursing manager.

Delivering nurse clinics as part of the regular nursing rota and ensuring all nurses contribute to these services.

Promoting excellent standards of anaesthesia, inpatient care, infection control and feline handling.

Supporting the training and development of colleagues and helping to encourage a culture of continuous learning.

Contributing to nursing administration and departmental organisation, with support from our Nursing Manager.

Identifying opportunities to improve the way we work and the care we provide.

Although there is an administrative element to the role, the main focus will be on leading by example, being actively involved in the clinical day and supporting the wider team.

Essential requirements

  • RCVS-registered Veterinary Nurse.
  • Completed or working towards ISFM Diploma in Feline Nursing or similar.
  • Strong clinical nursing experience and a genuine passion for feline medicine.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • An approachable and supportive leadership style.
  • Confidence in coordinating daily workflow and managing competing priorities.
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving and maintaining high clinical standards.
  • An interest in supporting the development of colleagues and contributing to a positive team
    culture.

DESIRABLE

  • Previous Head Nurse, senior nursing or clinical leadership experience.
  • Qualified Clinical Coach, with experience supporting student veterinary nurses.
  • Experience helping to coordinate the day-to-day running of a veterinary practice.

Hours

  • 40 hours per week.
  • Five days per week, working 8-hour days.
  • 1 in 4 weekends (Saturday and Sunday).
  • Days off in lieu following weekend shifts.

Nurse consultations #

Locum Veterinary Nurse

We are looking for an experienced Registered Veterinary Nurse based in or around London who regularly locums and would like to build a relationship with The London Cat Clinic for ad hoc cover throughout the year.

We don’t have regular locum shifts available, but we are keen to find someone who we can get to know and rely on when cover is needed. We value continuity for our patients, clients and team, and would much rather work with nurses who become familiar faces within the practice.

The London Cat Clinic sees a diverse and interesting feline caseload, supported by a highly skilled and friendly team. We want our locum nurses to feel genuinely part of that team when they are here, with the same support, respect and inclusion as our permanent colleagues.

A love of cats is essential, as is a passion for providing excellent patient and client care. We believe that ‘the whole is greater than the sum of its parts’ and are looking for someone who shares this approach.

You will work alongside veterinary surgeons, qualified nurses, veterinary care assistants and receptionists in a dedicated cat-only practice.

Emergency care

Locum Veterinary Surgeon

We are looking for an ongoing locum to assist us with holiday cover for ad hoc days throughout the year.

The clinic sees a diverse and interesting caseload, making it an interesting stint in a very supportive environment with a wonderfully skilled team.

A love of felines is a given and we want colleagues to join us who are passionate about what they do and will treat our patients, team members and owners with the same care and attention that you would like to be treated.

We value all our team members equally and a core value is that the ‘whole is greater than the sum of its parts’. We expect you to feel the same!

Vet shifts are 10 hours, starting at 8 am, 8.30 am and 10.30 am. You will be working with a full team, including receptionists, qualified nurses and a veterinary care assistant.
